Well, here goes.....hello, my name is Nikki and I am a first time blogger. I figure that as I attempt to make my way in the world as a self-employed something or other....I need to do a better job of getting my name and skills out there. Living in Truckee doesn't exactly put me at the forefront of design innovation or cutting edge technology or provide the best forum to display my wares. I do my best with what I've got....a nice table to draw on, a borrowed welder and some small scale tools. I'm pretty content (really?) but I do have visions of a more set-up shop with lots of cool tools and supplies and lots of time to design and create. I am currently working on the sweetest project I could have ever dreamed of, a real-life, full size house design. A friend has put her trust in me to design something small scale, modern and beautiful. Am I the luckiest girl in the world? I studied architecture, thought I would become an architect, but as I have learned over the years, school is one thing, real world is another. My initial attempts to navigate the world of architecture was anything but satisfying. I pushed that time to the back-burner and went on a quest to find a profession that was inspiring and challenging. Learning to weld and work with glass opened a world that provides endless opportunities. It's interesting to look back over the years and see how my path through life has informed the person I am today. I think I am best suited to work as an independent artist/designer who expresses myself in a variety of mediums and strives to make well intended communication a key part of my professional interactions. Life is too short to have regrets or treat others in ways that we do not want to be treated.
